Well, actually, I believe the fun part of Pokemon is making a team of Pokemon you like and battling your friends for bragging rights, etc. Kinda like I used to do before I found Smogon
But yeah. When you overanalyze a game like Pokemon or SSBB, then it's like, "Oh? Why did we bother giving the frames character models, or give each Pokemon an indiviual sprite? If all they care about are numbers and pure objectives, why even waste our time on them?" See, I enjoy video games for the visual aspect of it, mostly. That's why when I play games like Pokemon and Brawl, I pick characters that are/have moves that are visually appealing to me. If I was just playing a game to beat someone else, you might as well play Chess. I've heard it's quite boring to watch a masters chess game because they all know each others strategies, making it extremely predictable. Sound familiar? People are turning Pokemon and Brawl into that raw strategy, and I personally don't like it. I play games to have fun, not prove to someone else I can beat them because I can form a better strategy than them. I don't know, it just seems like online gaming is far too fast paced and centered on winning rather than fun now.
Well, at least my Dragon team is a combination of overanilization and fun. Yay. And I play as Ganondorf a lot in Brawl. He got nerfed a ton since Melee; So what? He's still fun to play as. His forward special, while less useful in a way, is now more visually pleasing, so I like him alright. Wish they'd left his down special alone, though. Regardless, even if he's bottom tier and counted out, I still play as him. Because I like him and I have fun playing as him. It's a game. It was meant to be played for enjoyment, and that's what I'm doing. And that's what matters.
So concludes my modern gaming manifesto
