PostSubject: Another team for the ungrateful one   Tue Aug 05, 2008 3:12 pm

Well my brother wants another team, this time utilizing Yanmega and/or Magmortar. He said he'd rather use Yanmega. I really don't feel like drafting a team for him right now, though, since every attempt I tried to do recently, he found something to |3!7|-| about and so I'm kinda fed up with him for the moment. Any suggestions?

Also, I apologize for not posting this on Pokestadum, but alas, I cannot Crying or Very sad

built this team pretty quick in shoddy battle, exported to text.
there's no rapid spinner: yanmega can set up faster if it takes the 50% damage from rocks.
it plays offensively, as usual. very self-explanatory; also, since your brother uses pokesav, it's easy to create.
it's easy to crop for 3v3 format, too, for pokemon battle revolution purposes.

Suicide lead that sets up rocks and explodes (Azelf) @ Focus Sash
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 6 Atk/252 Spd/252 SAtk

---
Absorbs fire (Heatran) (F) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 20 HP/238 Spd/252 SAtk
IVs: 30 Atk, 26 Def
Mild nature (+SAtk, -Def)
- Hidden Power [Ice]

- Explosion
---
Quick solution to rapid spin (Gengar) (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 6 HP/252 Spd/252 SAtk
Modest nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Focus Blast
- Thunderbolt
- Shadow Ball
- Hypnosis
---
Crocune absorbs status (Suicune) @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP/252 Def/6 SAtk
IVs: 30 SAtk
Bold nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Calm Mind
- Surf
- Rest
- Sleep Talk
---

Nifty! Thanks Charlotte. I also whipped up a pretty good team (I think...) using Magmortar, so do tell me what you think of it once I have it finalized and posted What a Face

Alright, here it is:

Team Magmortar

Game Plan - Set up Stealth Rock with Azelf, then Explode to bring in the next Pokemon, depending on how the opponent is read. In addition to a Rapid Spin blocker (obviously), this team carries two Pokemon (Breloom and Empoleon) who possess moves meant to force switches, racking up residual damage from Stealth Rock.

Azelf @ Focus Sash
Naive
Levitate
6 Atk, 252 Spd, 252 Sp.Atk
- Stealth Rock
- Explosion
- Psychic
- Taunt

Same deal as the other team. Set up SR and Explode. If the opponent has a Gengar, however, it'll be better to keep this guy alive, as he's probably the best counter, assuming it's not running Choice Scarf.

Magmortar @ Life Orb
Mild
Flame Body
84 Atk, 252 Sp.Atk, 172 Spe
- Lava Plume
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power Ice
- Cross Chop

My brother really hates Choice items, so this Magmortar is a mixed attacker with Life Orb. Luckily, Cross Chop can 2HKO Blissey as long as SR is still up.

Dusknoir @ Leftovers
Impish
Pressure
252 Hp, 252 Def, 252 Sp.Def
- Will-O-Wisp
- Fire Punch
- Thunderpunch
- Pain Split

Standard Physical tank build, blocking Rapid Spinners, supplying status via Will-O-Wisp, and covering for Empoleon's Fighting weakness.

Breloom @ Toxic Orb
Adamant
Poison Heal
44 Hp, 252 Atk, 212 Spe
- Substitute
- Leech Seed
- Focus Punch
- Spore

Subseeder set for optimal annoyance with Stealth Rock, powerful Subpunches, and Spore for Sleep.

Empoleon @ Leftovers
Calm
Torrent
252 Hp, 252 Sp.Def, 6 Spe
- Surf
- Ice Beam
- Grass Knot
- Roar

Special Tank Empoleon with Roar for more of the afore-mentioned phazing fun. I chose Calm over Modest as RS Starmie is easily handled by Dusknoir.

Flygon @ Life Orb
Jolly
Levitate
32 Hp, 252 Atk, 8 Def, 216 Spe
- Fire Blast
- Roost
- Earthquake
- Dragon Claw

Life Orb Flygon with Roost for recovery. Covers perfectly for Empoleon's nasty Electric/Ground weaknesses. I'm not completely sure whether it'd be overall better to go with a CS set on Flygon or just use Garchomp instead (as it's Garchomp I'm worried about), so do let me know what you think. Flygon's waaaaaaaaay cooler than him, anyway. He's far too overused. BTW, the moves are only arranged that way because they spell "FRED" vertically Laugh

And that's "Team Magmortar" I guess. Now rate my team!

in my opinion, this team is a bit too defensively oriented to benefit from a suicide lead. you lack a rapid spinner, so azelf's ability to "counter" gengar is easily hindered. also, azelf can only "counter" gengar once, so there really isn't anything stopping a life orb gar from running this team straight into the ground.

as you mentioned, there is very little in the way of stopping garchomp. you're also weavile, deoxys-s, and lucario weak; the yanmega team is, as well, but the difference is that team magmortar allows the pace to be very slack, allowing any one of those three to come out and freely start setting up. again, this might be fixed by using a different type of lead, or alternatively, running something like gengar and starmie instead of dusknoir and special sponge empoleon.

speaking of which, using starmie would also allow you the freedom of using magmortar to hit faster opponents than himself. 83 spe is way too low for magmortar to be staying in and sweeping wholesale, so unless you've got a bunch of thunder wavers around, or an agilipasser, magmortar will be switching in and out a bunch of times regardless of whether he's using a choice item or not.

I see your point about the defense thing. I noticed it too, but couldn't really do anything about it because I was stuck on thinking about how much Magmortar really needs it...

So should we go with LO Gar, RS Starmie, and a CS Magmortar (to aid in the speed department), instead?

mm, using both gengar and starmie would open you up for a weavile sweep. bit of an oversight on my part. you'd have to run something like bronzong over flygon in the last slot, or forretress over flygon and use a counterstar instead of a spinner star.

in any case, i do recommend choice scarf.

Right. I've been suggesting CS to him from the beginning...

And I see your point about Weavile. Flygon's purpose was really just to provide some extra attacking/cover for Empoleon's weaknesses/an extra EQ immunity but since Empoleon's gone anyway, I think one of the above options will work much better.

So, how did this team come along?

traffic is really low lately, and I won't be here for next week. I'm on holiday in cornwall do in some camping. It will be hell! There are gale force winds, heavy rain. And I am missing a Metroid prime hunters tourney on wifipredators.

Well I can't exactly remember. He only used it like once...

Hence the term "the ungrateful one" Wink
